On the occasion of the birth anniversary of eminent South Indian engineer Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, the Progressive Engineers\u2019 Association organised its annual Engineers\u2019 Day celebration. The programme was attended by State Irrigation Minister Manas Bhuiyan, South Burdwan MLA Khokan Das, MLA Debashis Kumar, the association\u2019s convenor Pratap Nayak, Kushal Choudhury on behalf of the Dakshineswar Temple Committee trustees, Tridib Kumar Chatterjee, secretary of the Booksellers\u2019 Guild, along with several Chief Engineers from various departments and many distinguished guests. The Vice-President of the association
\nannounced that nearly 2,500 engineers attended the celebration this year. He also expressed joy that, for the very first time, the association has been officially recognised by the state government. In his address, Minister Manas Bhuiyan emphasised that the engineers of the state government have been at the helm of the Chief Minister\u2019s relentless efforts in building dams, embankments, and bridges across West Bengal. Referring to them as the \u201cliving embodiments of Vishwakarma\u201d, the minister underlined their central role in the state\u2019s development. He also criticised central neglect, remarking that the Chief Minister herself has been carrying forward the progress of the state with determination and independence.<\/p>\n
