Navi Mumbai| November 2nd 2025:
In a night of high drama and celebration, India’s women’s cricket team created history by clinching their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title, defeating South Africa in a gripping final at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.
Both India and South Africa were eyeing their maiden 50-over World Cup crown, but it was the home side that held their nerve before a roaring Mumbai crowd to seal a memorable victory.
South Africa’s Strong Start Fizzles Out
Opting to bat first, South Africa looked in solid form as opener Laura Wolvaardt anchored the innings with a classy 101 off 98 balls. Her century laid the foundation for a competitive total, but India’s bowlers kept striking back at crucial intervals. Despite partnerships building in the middle order, South Africa were bowled out for 246 runs, failing to capitalize on Wolvaardt’s brilliance.
All-rounder Deepti Sharma starred with the ball, claiming key wickets, including Nadine de Klerk and Chloe Tryon, breaking South Africa’s momentum. Her consistent accuracy in the middle overs ensured India stayed in control.
India Hold Their Nerve.
Chasing 247 under pressure, India faced tense moments as wickets fell at regular intervals. But the experience of skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and the steady batting in the lower order guided the hosts to a thrilling finish. The winning moment came when Harmanpreet took a decisive catch off Deepti Sharma’s bowling to dismiss de Klerk — sealing both the match and the championship.
A Historic Night for Indian Cricket
The victory marks India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup triumph in the 50-over format, a milestone achieved in front of passionate home supporters. For South Africa, reaching their first World Cup final was itself a landmark, despite the heartbreak of falling short.
As fireworks lit up the Navi Mumbai skyline, players embraced in tears of joy Night Indian Cricket Will Never Forget!
