He had been battling serious illnesses, including a cerebral attack and kidney issues, for several months. Roy was widely admired for his contributions to both Bengali cinema and news broadcasting, having worked in iconic films like Pratidwandi by Satyajit Ray and Calcutta 71 by Mrinal Sen. His passing was mourned by many, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who highlighted the cultural void created by his death.
Roy’s wife, Anuradha Roy, is also a noted Bengali actress and news reader. His contributions to Doordarshan, where he served as a beloved news reader, earned him widespread recognition across Bengal.
