Satish Shah Passes Away at 74.

The Veteran Actor, Well Known for ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’ Dies of Kidney Failure,October 25, 2025.

The Veteran Bollywood & television actor Satish Shah, best known for his iconic role as Indravadan Sarabhai in the hit sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, passed away in Mumbai on Saturday following kidney failure. He was 74.

According to family sources, Shah had been unwell for several days and was admitted to Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai after complications related to kidney function. Despite doctors’ efforts, he breathed his last on Saturday afternoon.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit confirmed the news on social media, expressing grief over the loss of the actor. “Deeply saddened to hear about the demise of veteran actor Satish Shah ji. A true gentleman and a powerhouse performer. Indian cinema has lost one of its finest comedic talents,” Pandit wrote.

A Four-Decade-Long Career of Laughter and Versatility

Born on June 25, 1951, in Mumbai, Satish Shah’s acting career spanned over four decades, across television, films & theatre.

 

He first rose to prominence with the cult classic ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ (1983), in which his portrayal of the deceased Municipal Commissioner D’Mello remains one of the most memorable comic cameos in Indian cinema.

On television, Shah became a household name with his performances in shows like ‘Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi’ and later, the evergreen ‘Sarabhai vs Sarabhai’, where his witty one-liners and impeccable timing made him an audience favourite.

In Bollywood, he delivered notable performances in films such as ‘Main Hoon Na,’ ‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!’, ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho,’ ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa,’ and ‘Om Shanti Om.’

Tributes Pour In

As news of his demise broke, tributes poured in from across the film & television fraternity. Actor Ratna Pathak Shah, his co-star from Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, said, “Satish was one of the most spontaneous and generous actors I have ever worked with. His humour was effortless, and his kindness unmatched.”

Filmmaker Karan Johar called him “ A Comic Legend who redefined character acting in Indian cinema.”

Fans across social media platforms remembered Shah for the warmth he brought to every role, whether comedic or serious.

His Final Journey.

Sources close to the family revealed that his last rites will be performed in Mumbai on Sunday, with close friends and family in attendance.

 

Satish Shah is survived by his wife Madhu Shah, who stood by him through his long illness and treatment.
