Patna|15th November 25:
In a startling political development, Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, has announced her decision to quit politics and publicly distance herself from her family. Her declaration comes in the immediate aftermath of the Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) major defeat in the Bihar Assembly elections.
Rohini made the announcement via a post on social media platform X, where she wrote, “I am leaving politics and distancing myself from my family … Sanjay Yadav and Rameez told me to do this … and I am taking all the blame upon myself.”
Her remarks have sent shock waves through the RJD, highlighting deepening internal rifts in the Yadav family and the party’s leadership structure.
Rohini’s move underscores a long-simmering frustration: in earlier posts, she had strongly denied having any political ambitions, declaring that “self-respect is supreme”.
Tensions had been visible for some time. In September, she unfollowed key political figures, including her father Lalu and brother Tejashwi Yadav, on social media, removed family photographs, and made cryptic posts about preserving “family honour.”
Another flashpoint was the controversy surrounding her kidney donation to her father in 2022. Rohini later challenged her critics, saying that if anyone proves she had not donated her kidney, “I will distance myself from political and public life.”
Her public disavowal is being viewed by many analysts as a sign of deep factionalism within the RJD, with Rohini implicitly attributing party failures to the influence of Tejashwi Yadav’s close aides, especially Sanjay Yadav.
This development adds a significant dimension to the political fallout of RJD’s electoral loss, raising questions about the party’s future unity and the Yadav family’s internal power dynamics.
