Chhath Puja celebrations will not be allowed at Rabindra Sarobar & Subhas Sarobar, which have remained restricted since a 2017 National Green Tribunal order. Minister ,Agnimitra Paul has announced plans to develop 50 alternative water bodies for devotees across the city, clarifying that the government will not violate the tribunal’s directions.
The announcement came after environmentalists, including Subhash Dutta, Mohit Roy & Mr Somendra Mohan Ghosh, objected to allowing celebrations at the lakes. KMDA engineers also reportedly advised against constructing temporary ghats there in view of the Supreme Court’s order. Alternative arrangements are being planned at Patuli, Nonadanga, Jodhpur Park, Poddar Nagar &other locations.
