Legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra (born Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol on 8 December 1935) passed away on Monday, 24 November 2025, in Mumbai at the age of 89. His death brings to a close one of the most iconic careers in Hindi-cinema history.
A Storied Life and Career…
Born in Phagwara, Punjab, he made his film debut in the early 1960s and evolved into a major star known for his versatility — from comedic roles to action-hero turns.
Some of his enduring hits include Sholay, Sita Aur Geeta, Phool Aur Patthar, and Yamla Pagla Deewana — each contributing to his legacy as one of Hindi cinema’s most loved stars.
He leaves behind a large & accomplished family, his first marriage to Prakash Kaur produced sons Sunny Deol & Bobby Deol, daughters Vijeta & Ajeeta; his second marriage to actress Hema Malini produced daughters Esha & AhanaRecent Health, Rumours & Demise.
In recent days, Dharmendra’s health had been a matter of concern. On 12 November, he was discharged from the city’s Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai reportedly in “stable condition”, after which he was recuperating at home.
Earlier in November, rumours circulated about his death — including social-media reports that he had passed away & was on ventilator support — which his family strongly denied. His wife Hema Malini and daughter Esha Deol clarified that he was alive and recovering, appealed for privacy.
Despite those earlier reassurances, the updated report from 24 November confirms his passing in Mumbai, signifying the sudden end of his long evening of life & work.

The funeral is underway in Vile Parle, Mumbai. High-profile arrivals at the crematorium included actor Salman Khan, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, actor-legend Amitabh Bachchan with his son Abhishek Bachchan & among others.
