NewDelhi|30th November 2025:
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the schedule for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Phase-2 of electoral rolls, extending key deadlines for 12 states and Union Territories currently undergoing the large-scale voter-list update exercise.
According to the updated schedule, the house-to-house enumeration—the most crucial step of verifying and recording voter details—will now continue until December 11, 2025, instead of the earlier deadline of December 4. The Commission has also pushed the date for the publication of the final electoral rolls to 14th February2026, giving authorities an additional week to complete verification & compilation work.
The SIR Phase-2 exercise is being conducted in Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, and the Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, and Puducherry.
Officials said the extension aims to ensure a more accurate & inclusive voter list as the exercise involves fresh verification of every household. The process includes door-to-door visits, draft roll publication, accepting claims & objections, and final verification before the final list is released.
The SIR initiative is part of the Election Commission’s larger effort to ensure a clean & updated electoral roll nationwide, ahead of upcoming electoral cycles in several states.
Residents of the 12 states & UTs have been advised to cooperate with Booth-Level Officers (BLOs), ensure their details & correctly recorded & later verify their names once the revised lists are published.
The new deadline gives electors added time to confirm their enrollment status & correct any discrepancies before the final rolls are locked for the 2026 election year.
