Kolkata witnessed another disturbing incident when a 28-year-old woman was forcibly dragged into a car from EM Bypass, molested, abused, and physically assaulted by three men – one of whom she had known for the past three months. The woman, a resident of East Kolkata, was waiting at a bypass bus stop under Pragati Maidan police station when the car stopped.
Trusting the familiar face, the lady was shocked when the men suddenly pushed her inside, locked the doors & began touching her inappropriately, hurling abuses & beating her during the ride. Using CCTV footage from the area, officers quickly identified & arrested a 24-year-old accused Altaf Alam (Garden Reach resident) while an intense manhunt is on for the other two suspects. The incident has once again raised serious concerns about women’s safety on Kolkata at night, even in busy areas like EM Bypass.
