In a significant move aimed at strengthening border security, The Kolkata High Court has directed the West Bengal government to hand over land in nine border districts to the Border Security Force (BSF) by 31st March 2026, for the installation of barbed wire fencing along the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The order was passed while hearing a petition highlighting prolonged delays in land transfer, which have hampered fencing work along vulnerable stretches of the international border. The court observed that border security is a matter of national importance & cannot be compromised due to administrative bottlenecks or inter-departmental delays.

Dist Covered Under The Order:

The directive applies to border districts including North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Cooch Behar & Jalpaiguri, where fencing work remains incomplete due to pending land acquisition & handover issues.
