Two days after the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, his wife Sunetra Pawar is set to step into a major leadership role in the state. According to sources, Sunetra Pawar, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, will take oath as Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister on Saturday and is expected to take charge of the reins of the Nationalist Congress Party.
The move comes amid discussions within the party about assigning a bigger role to Sunetra Pawar following Ajit Pawar’s Demise. A Legislature Party meeting has been scheduled for Saturday, during which she will be formally named as the leader, Maharashtra Minister, Chhagan Bhujbal said.
Sources further indicated that Sunetra Pawar is likely to be allocated the Excise & Sports portfolios, while the Finance Portfolio will be handled by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, marking a significant Political Transition in the State.
