Sources Indicate BJP, May Field Rakesh Singh from Kolkata Port Assembly constituency Seat; Awaiting Bail Before Final Decision
According to sources, BJP strongman leader Rakesh Singh, considered a close associate of senior West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari, may be fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as its candidate from the Kolkata Port Assembly constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections. However, party insiders indicate that a final decision is likely to depend on developments related to his bail status.
Sources within political circles suggest that the BJP leadership is exploring strong local faces to strengthen its position in key constituencies across Kolkata. The Kolkata Port seat is considered strategically important, and Rakesh Singh’s name is reportedly under active consideration due to his organizational influence and political proximity to senior state leadership.
Political observers believe that his association with Suvendu Adhikari and his presence in grassroots-level party activities could make him a significant contender if the party decides to move forward with his candidature.
At present, Rakesh Singh is awaiting bail, and sources indicate that clarity on his legal status may play an important role before any official announcement is made by the party regarding the Kolkata Port Assembly seat.
So far, the BJP has not issued any formal confirmation about its candidate from the constituency. However, if nominated, Rakesh Singh’s entry into the electoral contest could make the Kolkata Port seat one of the closely watched battlegrounds in the upcoming elections.
