A Serious Allegation of sexual harassment & criminal intimidation has surfaced in South Kolkata’s Tollygunge area after a woman lodged a written complaint against Gaurav Biswas, a controversial local political figure & husband of a former BJP Councillor of Kmc, Ward 86.
According to the complaint submitted at Tollygunge Police Station, the incident took place on the evening of 25th May 2026 near Lake Mall,opposite to the well-known “Radhu Babu, Chai Dokan.” The complainant alleged that while she was returning home with her 9 years son after his tuition classes, Gaurav Biswas suddenly stopped her on the road & began verbally abusing her.
The woman further alleged that the accused made sexually coloured remarks, obscene comments & indecent hand gestures in public, leaving her traumatised & humiliated, She also said this in not the first time.In her complaint, she stated that the incident caused severe mental distress & fear for her safety as well as her child’s wellbeing. She also expressed fear of retaliation from the accused and his associates.
The complaint has now triggered widespread discussion in local political & social circles, as Gaurav Biswas has allegedly been linked to multiple controversies over the years, with multiple corruption charges.Sources claim that during the tenure of his late wife, who served as BJP councillor of Ward 86 before her tragic death in an accident, Biswas frequently interfered in political & organisational matters in the locality, spreading humours against his own party colleagues too.
Locals and party insiders allege that he was involved in extracting money from promoters, businessmen & shopkeepers in the area. Several complaints of intimidation, misconduct & misbehaviour with party workers were allegedly made against him in the past. Party workers from Ward 86 have also claimed that grassroots members were often prevented from functioning independently due to his alleged dominance in local affairs.
Adding another layer of controversy, questions have once again resurfaced regarding the death of his former councillor wife. While officially termed an accident, some local residents allegedly suspected foul play at the time. However, no detailed investigation reportedly took place as the family did not pursue the matter further.
Sources further stated that Gaurav Biswas had contested the 2021 Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections on the “Jora Pata” symbol & continued to maintain influence in the locality despite repeated allegations against him.
Meanwhile, the latest complaint has intensified demands for strict police action. The woman complainant has urged Tollygunge Police Station to immediately to register an FIR against the accused which is registered already been done with multiple sections.
Police officials are yet to make any official statement regarding the allegations. They only stated the FIR has taken place and law will take his own course.
